Passiflora ‚Lady Margaret‘ ist eine hübsche Passionsblumen-Hybride mit roten Blütenblättern und einer weißen Blütenmitte. Sie ist eine Kreuzung aus Passiflora coccinea und Passiflora incarnata. P. coccinea blüht rot, aber hierzulande nur unter Glas, soweit ich weiß. Die leicht gekräuselten Korona-Fäden sind lila-weiß gestreift. Sie sind ein Erbe der Passiflora incarnata. Leider hat die ‚Lady Margaret‘ auch die Neigung von der P. incarnata geerbt, Spinnmilben wie ein Magnet anzuziehen.
Passiflora ‚Lady Margaret‘: wunderschön, aber unzuverlässig?
Passiflora ‚Lady Margaret‘ ist eigentlich eine blühfreudige Sorte, die ich trotz ihrer Neigung zu Schädlingen empfehlen würde, wenn mir nicht mehrere Pflanzen dieser Passiflora-Sorte von heute auf morgen ohne ersichtlichen Grund eingegangen wären. Und zwar in verschiedenen Jahren. Ich habe immer wieder mal einen Versuch mit Passiflora ‚Lady Margaret‘ gemacht und immer wieder die gleiche Erfahrung machen müssen. Von diesem Phänomen haben mir auch andere Passiflora-Freunde berichtet.
Deshalb empfehle ich Passiflora ‚Lady Margaret‘ nur mit Vorbehalt. Die Lady bestätigt das Gerücht, dass rot blühende Passionsblumen schwieriger zu halten wären als andere Sorten. Warum auch immer.

It is a cross between Passiflora coccinea and Passiflora incarnata. P. coccinea has red flowers, but in Central Europe it blooms only in a greenhouse, as far as I know. The slightly curled, striped corona comes from Passiflora incarnata. Unfortunately, Lady Margaret also inherited P. incarnata’s affection to spider mites.
Passiflora ‚Lady Margaret‘: what a beauty – but is it reliable?
Passiflora ‚Lady Margaret‘ is floriferous, and I would recommend this Passi despite of its pest affection, if it would not have died without any evident reason. Several plants died almost overnight, and I heard of the same phenomenon from other Passiflora friends. If the plants folded due to pest or for another reason, remains wild guess.
Therefore, I recommend Passiflora ‚Lady Margaret‘ only with reservations. The Lady is a red flowering Passion Flower which once again confirms the saying that red Passis are a bit difficult to cultivate. For whatever reason.
